Blizzard Beach VS Typhoon Lagoon?

This was one of our biggest decisions in planning, since we couldn't do both - which water park should we choose?

So we did the only rational thing. We made a pros vs cons list!

A little bit of background - neither of us are huge water park fans! Especially me. I'm pretty certain I drowned in another life.

That was the first thing we looked at: The Rides!

Now Blizzard Beach has this ride called the Summit Plummet, and as soon as I read that my stomach plummeted. So we did what anyone in our generation does and hopped over to youtube to check out a go pro video of the ride. Its the tallest water slide in Florida and drops you 120 feet. Its pretty much a vertical fall.

This was a HUGE strike no in my book

But a HUGE strike yes for Liz who apparently has no regard for her life.

Typhoon Lagoons biggest attraction used to be Sharks Reef where you could dive under a Reef tank filled with sharks, fish and stingrays - but the attraction closed in 2016! Most likely for the benefit of sea animals that shouldn't be kept in a tank, as amazing as this would have been.

Now their biggest ride is the Humunga Kowabunga- which does not have the most comforting name. Its a 5 story drop... in the DARK. WHY?!

Well this does seem better than the Plummet - so Typhoon Lagoon got a check from me.

Liz decided to stick with Blizzard Beach

Second we looked at Lazy Rivers! Without a doubt, lazy rivers are my favorite part of water parks.

So Blizzard Beach has a lazy river called Cross County Creek and it flows 3000ft all around the park! It can also be used to get from one side to the other! There is a polar cave with falling ice water - so keep an eye out for that! I guess freezing cold water will feel amazing in Florida - but here in Canada polar ice water has a whole other meaning!

Typhoon Lagoon has a lazy river called Castaway Creek and its only 2100 ft long but has tons of calming foliage and waterfalls! It also has misting screens! No crazy cold surprises here! Its a great way to relax in the sun!

So there really isn't a winner between these two! Both are awesome! We decided they couldnt play a role in our decision!

Next we looked at Themes - cause it is Disney after all!

Each park has its own unique story!

Blizzard Beach was at one-time a ski resort that has melted into a watery wonderland due to the Florida heat! There are tons of Christmas music and snowy decor!

Typhoon Lagoon's story is that is a tropical paradise hit with a massive storm! Its really got that lost island tropical feel to it!

It was hard decision but both of us decided to stick to our Canadian roots and love the wintery water park!

Blizzard Beach Ski Lift

Ultimately - the decision was out of our hands when we discovered that Blizzard Beach has a ski lift! The one thing I hate about water parks is walking up a huge climb to do a ride that I dont really love doing!

So Blizzard Beach won for us!
