Magic Express Bus

As someone coming from WAY out of town - I was thrilled when I found out about Disney Magical Express. It meant I didn't have to fork out money for a cab or rent a car, being forced to pay for parking until the end of my trip. Disney Magic Express bus is a FREE airport transfer service for those staying on-site Disney. The buses are standard Greyhound type, with tvs and decent seats! Something important to note is that the Magical Express does not go to off-site Disney hotels like the Swan and Dolphin.

The bus itself runs 24hours a day - so no matter what time your flight is - you're good to go!

I'll start off with Orlando Airport, which confused the crap outta me the first few times I'd been. There are train systems that bring you from the gates to the main terminal. The last time I was there, they were these yellow vintage feeling cars, I don't know if they're still the same - but I hope so! Each of the gates are for separate Airlines - so it comes in handy to have the map in advance to know which area of the airport you'll be entering from( see the map down below for reference).

Once you're in the main terminal, you have two options. If you are a US citizen, coming from a US state - then your baggage already has the tickets it needs to be picked up by Disney and will magically show up in your room a few hours after arrival. You should receive bright yellow tags about two weeks before

Now, if you are coming from elsewhere, such as us Canadians - you have to pick your bags at baggage claim first - then hand them over to the Disney Magical Express people. If you have a while before the bus to your resort leaves, your bags are in good hands and you can browse the AWESOME Disney store in the airport.

UPDATE : I have to look further into it, but apparently Canada is now able to have their bags picked up for them at Baggage Claim. I'll update when I have the proper info!

Be sure, however, to pack everything you may need for the first few hours of your Disney Vacation in your carry on - it can take upwards of 3 - 6 hours for your luggage to appear. It usually depends on the time of year you visit and how many users of the service are also on your particular day.

Some of the buses make multiple stops at different resorts, but at least the route is scenic and there is a wonderful video playing on the bus to watch!

You should always book the Magic Express as soon as you have your flight details. If you have your flight info at the time of your booking, you can reserve right then and there. If not, you can reserve online at - https://secure.reservations.disney.go.com/ibcwdw/en_US/dme/dmeform- just make sure to have your Hotel reservation number.

As seen below the Magical Express bus is on Level one, the escalators and paths are shown in red dots - easy peasy lemon squeezy! There are also TONS of signs guiding you to the level one area. If you ever need help, there are tons of personelle around to help you out! Remember not to pack your magic band, if you are in the US and got it before your trip -you'll need it to scan at the bus terminal. If you are from out of town and picking up your magic bands at your resort, have your Disney Confirmation number on hand ( I find the smartphone app is the best thing to keep ready)

The Cast Members will direct you to the right bus for your hotel!

You'll spend about 30 minutes on the bus, depending of course on traffic and other stops. Always prepare for extra time. Prepare for the worst and hope for the mediocre. Then get excited for the best.

NOW THE DREADED PART OF THE POST.

The return trip to the airport. The night before your final day at your hotel - you will receive the horrible letter on the door. This letter holds the depressing Magical Express pick up time, based off your flight details. Usually about 3 hours before your flight departs. Keep this letter because it is your Magical Express ticket.

Your Resort also offers Resort Airline Check in. This service is only open from 5am to noon thought - but you can check in as early as you want if you have an evening flight. Where you can check your bags 3 hours before your departure and get your boarding passes before even leaving Disney - giving you more time at the airport to sulk, or if youre like me, take advantage of the last US based restaurants. The Cinnabon is my usual goodbye treat.

Overall, the Magical Express is a life saver. Free and convenient to use. Try it out for yourself on your next Disney Trip!
