Disney is pretty lax about a lot of stuff- it is a place to have fun and enjoy the magic! But they still have to have some rules to keep the magic safe!
To save yourself time and energy (Or the loss of an item) double check your stuff before entering the parks! Also keep your bags to a reasonable size. Don't drag your largest backpack or you're whole suitcase. Keep it to a minimum. It gets exhausting carrying around all the stuff you MIGHT need. if you are travelling with children this is an exception of course, from my limited experience, kids are flipping needy. Also have your bag ready to show as your passing through the inspection. Don’t waste your time and everyone behind yous time.
Disney lets you bring your own food into the park as long as there is no glass (exception is glass babyfood jars!)
so feel free to pack a small cooler with snacks and water. Just make sure it’s portable, on wheels, or can fit into a stroller if you’re bringing your young children!
No scooters, skateboards, or wheelie sneakers - or anything with wheels really! There are strollers available if you need them and you can obviously bring your own - but the last thing a crowded Disney park needs is a kid on a Skateboard zooming around. On that note, anything with 3 or less wheels is not allowed in the parks, so segways included. Excluded are mobility scooters.
Disney is starting to sell more and more alcoholic beverages - but you cant bring any into the park. So leave the 12pack in the hotel or the car! Or prepare to lose it. Disney does however offer shipping back to your hotel room, I believe. But I’m not sure alcohol qualifies for this. This also goes for illegal drugs/substances! In Canada, weed is legal but there’s no way I’m bringing it to Disney! Selfie sticks! To be honest, I was a bit bummed when I saw that! in retrospect, it makes sense, how many people are going to lose their selfie stick AND their phone on many of Disney’s fast moving rides. They have camera installed to take pics of you. Also I couldn’t imagine getting through crowds at Disney while also having to navigate a jungle of selfie sticks! If you manage to sneak one through security, Cast members can and WILL confiscate them if seen.
Folding Chairs! As much as we'd all love to have a chair with us instead of standing in the long line , or for saving the best parade viewing spot - its a big nono.
Pets are not allowed into the parks, with the exception of course for service dogs. Originally animals weren't even allowed in the resorts, or hotels - but now they are! I've heard rumours that there are even doggy day cares!
Something NEW, Disney no longer allows ice. Bags of loose ice or dry ice ( not sure what the occasion for dry ice is at Disney - but to each their own!). Reusable Ice packs are allowed in coolers and such but don't bring a bag of loose ice for your cooler. Its hard for security to dig through ice clumps, so put loose ice in a baggies so it can do its job and be easily moved by security.
A slightly obvious one, but I feel it needs some expanding. Weapons are obviously not allowed in Disney parks - even toy guns and bubble guns, to avoid confusion. This makes an extremely large amount of sense given the current gun predicament of the US. Leave all personal, concealed firearms in your hotels or cars.
If you are celebrating a Birthday at Disney, don't bring your gifts wrapped. You WILL have to unwrap it at security to be sure it's safe. Use bags instead of wrapping paper - and have it ready for security to double check it.
I don't see why someone would, but someone had to since it's a rule - don't bring drones into Disney. One, don't ruin the magic by trying to get photos of backstage, or behind the rides. Also I dont want your drone flying through my Disney selfie.
This must have been an issue at one time since cremated remains are no long allowed at Disney. As much as we'd all love to rest in peace beside the castle - lets not. Bring the memories, not the ashes.
Also fun thing to note, if you are a professional photographer - don't let Disney know it. Professional Photographers are not allowed to take photos within the park- except for their own team. This ties in with the tripod rule. It is said that tripods that can fold up and fit in a backpack, are allowed in the parks now - just be sure you aren't in the way or bothering anyone. Cast members have the right to ask you to move and set up somewhere else.
Anything that can be dragged behind you is a no go. Strollers must be pushed ahead - and now have size requirements. Smaller sizes are being enforced now, presumably to help with crowding . They must be 31 inches wide or less and 52 inches long or less. This is brought down by 5 inches from the previous regulations. They still have rental strollers - which, in my kidless opinion, is probably the best option. Just remember not wagons, or strollers that are pulled. Nothing that can be pulled behind you.
FINALLY, Disney has banned smoking from the parks. As of May 1st 2019, smoking is not allowed in all the parks, or Downtown Disney. There will be prohibited smoking area designated in secured areas. This includes cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars, vapes, and weed.
Something that shocked me was the fact that adults are not allowed to be in costume. I guess in retrospect it makes sense. I wouldnt want to see Wanda from Walmart in a halfassed Elsa costumed when the "real" Elsa is standing 5 feet away. It would ruin the illusion for some children. However, Liz and I will be Disneybounding. Where we dress us as our favorite characters - not in costume but in color schemes and concepts. I'll be posting up some of our plans soon, keep an eye out for them. On Halloween adults are permitted to dress up in costume. This is also ties into the fact that Disney is now keeping an eye out for inappropriate clothing - which does bring up the question of what is deemed inappropriate? I assume it means vulgar tshirts, or excessive body showing. I mean, don't go to DIsney naked and avoid clothes with swear words - and you should be fine.
I wasnt expecting this list to get so long, but most of them make tons of sense. Disney needs to be a safe place and the world we live in today is overflowing with weird stuff that we don't actually need. So remember to double check your bags before you leave your hotel room or car!
